A dynamic and highly physical challenge awaits participants in this barrel rolling race, where agility and coordination will be essential to cross the finish line first. In both a friendly and competitive atmosphere, each candidate must master the weight and inertia of the barrel while maintaining speed and control along a sometimes demanding course.
This unique challenge, combining winegrowing tradition with sporting performance, promises a moment of sharing and good spirits at the heart of the Vinitech Games. Between laughter, cheers from the crowd, and rising adrenaline, the experience is designed to be both festive and authentic, showcasing the emblematic expertise of the wine industry trades.
The Barrel Rolling Contest will take place on Wednesday, December 2nd, from 2:00 PM to 5:15 PM, at the Vinitech-Sifel Trade Show during the Vinitech Games, at the Parc des Expositions - Bordeaux.
This contest is chaired by: le Club des Rouleurs de Barriques de Lussac-Saint-Emilion
During this contest, 16 participants will take on a major challenge: rolling a 35 kg barrel on its edge along a straight 15-metre course, completed back and forth as quickly as possible.
Each participant must roll a 35 kg barrel on its edge along a 15-metre course, completed in both directions.
Participants will be randomly divided into 4 groups of 4 players.
Group stage:
In each group, every participant competes against the other three in head-to-head matches. At the end of this stage, a ranking is established within each group based on the results.

INTERCO Nouvelle-Aquitaine : supporting international visibility
As the international cooperation agency of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Regional Council, the INTERCO team coordinated the organisation of the Vinitech Games with the Vinitech-Sifel trade show and all partners, and carried out actions to make the contest accessible to international participants.
You will therefore be able to compete against professionals and trainees from all over the world, broadening your technical horizons.
Rooted in Bordeaux folklore, the Barrel Rolling Club of Lussac-Saint-Émilion carries on a centuries-old tradition that originated among Bordeaux coopers. It involved racing over a set distance while rolling a Bordeaux barrel on its edge (40 kg and 225 L).
Following the gradual disappearance of other barrel rolling clubs in France, the association shifted its focus toward entertainment and now offers shows and demonstrations using lighter barrels adapted for audiences of all ages, promoting the skills and traditions of the wine industry.
