Grape Protect – The vine protection net manufactured by Alphatex

Grape Protect is an innovative protective and trellising net specially designed for vineyards. This net offers numerous benefits to growers, whether they are growing table grapes or wine grapes. It protects the fruit from adverse weather conditions, helps to reduce labour costs and, furthermore, helps to produce higher-quality produce.

Alphatex presents the result of extensive development: Grape Protect, a high-density polyethylene (HDPE) knitted protective net designed specifically for vineyards.

Highly effective against hail and rain, it also offers numerous other benefits for wine and table grapes. In particular, it provides a windbreak and shade, which greatly enhance the quality of the fruit.

Frost Protection – The benefits of netting to protect vineyards from spring frost

Thanks to its special weave and ‘Snow White Ultimate’ colour, the Gel Protect reflects infrared rays to raise the temperature beneath the net at night.

This net is highly durable and specially designed not to create a microclimate whilst in place. Before a frost event, there is invariably a period of strong winds. This is why the net and its installation are reinforced, so that it can easily withstand these windy conditions.

The aim of Gel Protect is to enable winegrowers to stop using polluting candles, anti-frost towers or heating cables. Made from HDPE, our net provides passive protection thanks to its non-polluting properties and the fact that it can be reused for around ten years.

Please note: using Gel Protect is not a substitute for vine maintenance to combat frost (keeping the grass mown short or ensuring the soil is free of stones, preparing the vines, etc.). Furthermore, Gel Protect is only effective against radiative frost (white frost) and when humidity is below 60 per cent.
