« I am both a small winery owner and consulting winemaker in Napa Valley. I started my own label, Keplinger Wines, in 2006 making single vineyard wines from Rhone varietals. I have expanded to now offer 10 wines from single vineyards and also make Cabernet Sauvignon from some beautiful vineyards in Napa Valley. This is a high end, boutique operation, making 21,000 bottles a year. In addition, I also make wine for Grace Family Vineyard, Kerr Cellars, Carte Blanche, and a new project that has yet to be named. I am also the Consulting Enologist for Force Majeure in Washington/Oregon. All of the projects are focused on making the very best wines with classic winemaking techniques utilizing the best in tanks, winery and vineyard equipment. »

In her own words : 

« I visited Bordeaux in 2006 to attend Vinitech, and it was an excellent experience. I made wine in Spain from 2004 through 2007, and there is always so much to be learned and gained from the cultural exchange with other winemakers and regions. Visiting Vinitech was great exposure to winemaking tools, equipment, methodology, philosophy - and I always appreciate this when I visit other regions. To make great wine, we must continually think and learn, hone our craft, renew our passion. At the same time, making new friendships enriches our art and is so essential to bring greater meaning to what we do."

« Among the Wine-growing and winery technology exhibitions I visit regularly, there is Vinitech in Bordeaux which is a particularly important international meeting place. Current innovations are presented, I discover new solutions that I can bring to my customers and implement in projects.

The exhibition also offers excellent opportunities for an international exchange of ideas and a platform for making new contacts.I am looking forward to visit it this year »

As a second-generation winemaker, Spencer worked his first harvest at the age of 10, in his own backyard. His father, Dan Gatlin, has been making wine in Texas since 1981 and is the founder of Inwood Estates.

Now that Inwood Estates is planning a new brand devoted entirely to Bordeaux-style wines, Spencer is attending Vinitech to explore new equipment, products, and ideas from the French winemaking industry.

BROOKE SHENK, CALIFORNIA, USA

WINEMAKER, ST. SUPERY ESTATE

Brooke Shenk has worked in winemaking in Napa, Sonoma, and New Zealand. She joined St. Supery in 2006.

Discover her career

« Throughout her time at St. Supéry Winery, Brooke has been instrumental in improving the quality of the wines with executing projects such as implementing and creating phenolic analysis and profiles during fermentation to help determine maceration decisions. She also has been involved in trials of different fermentation vessels for red wine maceration (open top, closed top, concrete tanks, barrel fermentation, large barrique barrels) and made selections, participated in the install and implementation from the trials. Brooke led yeast trials, tannin trials, cork closure trials all which have defined and improved the quality of our wines.

Brooke is a leader within the company for ongoing sustainable practices and new initiatives. In the past 3 years St. Supéry reduced water usage by 50% in the winery and the solar panels have saved 923 tons of CO2. Brooke is a leader of the company’s Green Team, dedicated to constantly improving our sustainable commitments. She has been a part of the Napa Green certification process twice for the Winery and for Land (St. Supéry’s two estate vineyards). Brooke implemented tube in tube place design to reduce water usage during the production process. In April 2018, Brooke accepted the California Green Medal for California Sustainable Winegrowing Leadership Awards on behalf of the Green team committee and Winery.

"I am looking forward to going to experiencing an international wine trade show that is represented by so many countries.  I will be looking for new vineyard and winery concepts, technology, and equipment to improve quality and efficiency of growing grapes and making wine."

LUDOVIC DERVIN, CALIFORNIA, USA

Ludovic Dervin was born in the Champagne region and now works in Napa Valley. We are glad he will be returning to France for Vinitech-Sifel 2018!

Discover his career

After working harvests in France, Greece, South Africa, and California, Ludovic experienced many different climates and winemaking traditions.

In 2002, he joined Mumm Napa, an American descendent of GH Mumm which uses traditional French winemaking techniques to create hand-crafted sparkling wines. Mumm Napa has a Napa Green sustainability certification and was the first California sparkling winery to receive 94 points from Wine Spectator.

The Grower Project, co-founded with Rae Wilson, creates high-quality wines from 100% Texas grapes. The wine labels indicate the soil type of the vineyard, reflecting The Grower Project’s mission to celebrate and showcase the Texas terroir.

Yes We Can Wine, co-founded with Chris Brundrett (a Vinitech Hosted Winemaker in 2016), makes the first canned rosé created with all Texas-grown grapes.
